Blessed with blue skies and the sight of snow covered peaks, we began our trek from Dingboche to Laboche on a great note. Trekking across vast plains where one could see around for miles, the icy winds that swept down from the mountains did not help us much in spite of bright sunshine.

It took us three hours to get to the tea house at the foot of the Thukla – Dukhla pass for some hot lemon chai before running the gauntlet of the Thukla – Dukhla Pass. Amidst yaks and trekkers, we made our way up the herculean pass. As we crossed the pass, we bore witness to haunting sight of thousands of memorials dedicated to passionate climbers who could not return from the folds of Everest. The sheer number suddenly brought into focus the unforgiving nature of Everest. Solemnly, we made our way down the pass where we came across an idyllic scene of tents pitched on the glacier of Labouche peak. We hoped for the town not to be much further away. But we were mistaken as we endlessly made our way up the Khumbu valley. Just as we’d given up hope, we turned a corner only to see the little hamlet of Labouche tucked away neatly into the fold of the land.
